Public Speaking Tips

Hi delegates!

In this post, we wanted to highlight some tips for public speaking as you prepare to deliver speeches in committee.

Public speaking is crucial in Model UN, whether it's for moderated caucus, defending a resolution, or sharing your ideas with other delegates.

Eye contact is great to keep your audience engaged, and be sure to speak loud enough so that everyone in the audience can hear you (but not too loud that you drown out other people talking!).

Remember, the best way to make your delivery stand out is by varying your tone, volume, and speed of your speech as appropriate.

The best speeches also are well organized, and clearly center a few main points — and they are new points, not repeated ones!

Finally, don't forget to practice, practice, practice, either with your team, a friend, in front of a mirror, or even a stuffed animal.

Don't forget to check out the BMUN speech webpage! https://www.bmun.org/in-committee/speeches

Best of luck,

International Labour Organization, BMUN 72
