Topic A Updates

Hello delegates! Here are some Topic A updates! Focus specifically on how these changes may impact labor workers—what will be the effects on employment opportunities and workers’ rights? The European Union has a new EU AI Act passed in December, requiring all artificial intelligence systems managing and operating critical infrastructure to be registered, aside from other things. Learn more information here . (Side note: We will not be focusing on Generative AI in committee.)  China is expanding its fully autonomous port technology; countries around the world are beginning to implement similar technologies.  We encourage you all to focus on searching for new updates closer to committee! Best, Emile Shah Vice Chair of ILO, BMUN 72

Public Speaking Tips

Hi delegates!  In this post, we wanted to highlight some tips for public speaking as you prepare to deliver speeches in committee. Public speaking is crucial in Model UN, whether it's for moderated caucus, defending a resolution, or sharing your ideas with other delegates.  Eye contact is great to keep your audience engaged, and be sure to speak loud enough so that everyone in the audience can hear you (but not too loud that you drown out other people talking!).  Remember, the best way to make your delivery stand out is by varying your tone, volume, and speed of your speech as appropriate.  The best speeches also are well organized, and clearly center a few main points — and they are new points, not repeated ones!  Finally, don't forget to practice, practice, practice, either with your team, a friend, in front of a mirror, or even a stuffed animal. Don't forget to check out the BMUN speech webpage!  https://www.bmun.org/in-committee/speeches   Best of luck, International La

Position Paper Tips

Hi delegates! Just wanted to check in and offer a bit more guidance on your position papers. As a reminder, ILO will be using standard Position Paper format detailed in the Position Paper Overview page on the BMUN website . Besides the general format, we wanted to offer some tips on the research process and the formation of your paper.  Research The biggest favor you can do for yourself in the writing process is to really apply time and effort into understanding the topics beforehand. Luckily, your generous dais has written the key to beginning this process: your synopsis! Not only do we recommend reading this synopsis, but we hope that you will interact with it. Ask questions, make connections, reflect on what you learned. Familiarizing yourself with the synopsis is the key to a smooth research experience.  After reading the synopsis, don’t stop there! This piece is just a stepping stone for the research we hope you will complete. Maybe read some additional case studies, look at som

Welcome and Expectations!

Hello delegates! We are so excited to welcome you to BMUN 72 and the International Labour Organization committee! In this committee, you will be developing a more nuanced understanding of labor automation and its impact on workers' rights while exploring the important role collective bargaining has in developing economies . Our first topic addresses labor workers' rights in a world of automation. O ur second topic addresses enabling the use of collective bargaining in developing economies. This blog will act as our committee’s more informal avenue for discussion and communication before the conference– and we’d love to see you interact with it! The purpose of this blog is to (1) allow you to actively engage with the content of this committee and (2) give you all the opportunity to learn about other countries’ policies before the debate actually starts. You can post comments on posts that we make and write about literally anything relevant to the topics at hand! For example, if
